Question #2: Sen. Walker's Response

As Secretary of State, I will advocate for a sample of ballots method, rather than an audit of precincts, to ensure accuracy in vote counts. Additionally, I will vigorously advocate to Congress to require under HAVA and the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to allow a state’s chief elections officer to be able to review the Independent Testing Authority (ITA) certification data on all voting machine manufacturers currently in use and applying for use in Oregon. A state’s chief elections officer should not be subject to the Trade Secrets Act when it is our responsibility to ensure the integrity of our voting systems.
