IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- County officials in eastern Idaho are asking disabled voters to use traditional punch card ballots if they can tomorrow, to avoid time-consuming tabulation required for new electronic touch-screen voting machines.
Bonneville County Election Officer Bobbie Jockumsen says because the county has not purchased a 60-thousand-dollar scanner to tabulate votes cast with the new AutoMark voting machines, those ballots must be counted by hand tomorrow night.
During May's primary, county election officials worked until 4:30 in the morning hand-counting ballots from the AutoMark machines. Jockumsen says the county is not discouraging people from using the AutoMarks, but election judges will not be encouraging voters to use them tomorrow.
